Accessing the
second loop
When you clear the first loop of the game in one credit, satisfying one of these
conditions will allow you to continue the game starting from the
first stage, but in a harder difficulty.
- Lose up to two fighters.
- Depending on the fighter used, have a maximum hit count of at
least the following:
- Type A: 270 hits
- Type B: 300 hits
- Type C: 330 hits
- Score at least 50 million points.
- Collect all thirteen bees in four of the six areas.
Star carriers
In the first three areas, you see these fat, green
bumblebee-looking machines. If you destroy one of these at the very
top of the screen, they will release one star. The closer one is to
the bottom of the screen, the more stars they will release until
they reach near the bottom. By then, it will release one large
aerial star. I'll leave it to you to decide how you want to destroy
them.
Rank?
In shooters, rank means the
difficulty of the game which depends on your performance. Typically,
the longer you live and the more you power up your fighter, the game
increases its difficulty--adds more enemies, more bullets, and so
forth. Zanac and Battle Garegga are notorious for using this rank
system.
From what I observed, DoDonPachi has no rank system. The game's
difficulty decreases momentarily only when you lose a fighter. All the
enemies will stop shooting until the invincible shield surrounding your
fighter expires. The game will then proceed to destroy you again as
usual.
