Commentary
I never used type A-S in
rigorous practice, but I have invested some time withtype A-L. This
fighter type is versatile, capable of precisely killing enemies for
racking up huge chains while having enough speed to evade incoming
bullets. Like other laser-powered fighters in DoDonPachi, this
type's laser can cut through multiple enemies and can quickly
destroy bosses. Since its shot is concentrated to the front, it can
destroy small enemies in one blow without wiping out nearby
enemies--perfect for keeping the hit gauge steadily filled. Yet its
shot also poses this problem: it cannot destroy enemies that the
other ship types can reach, especially those enemies that are escaping
to the bottom of the screen. This is bad for continuing a chain.
Thus, the type A player must be patient enough to create enemy
bridges--keeping certain enemies alive for a while in order to
continue a chain--and destroy them slowly afterward. But overall, type
A-L is a fun and easy fighter to
use, whether the player's using it to create massive chains
precisely or just for wreaking mass destruction.
