>> BLUE
TREES
The colour schemes in 19XX can be rather special - tending to
use tones of the same colour throughout a level. Complementing
level 2's red stained effort is this altogether chilly blue location.
Happily, enemies
still flash in lilac tones to signify their hurt. Not that it's
an essential addition to the shootemup genre of course, but I
do like to know I'm hitting what I'm hitting.

<< WHERE'S THIS?
Anybody recognise the locale? must be Greenland I think - yes
it is, there's Scotland down there. Luckily my house was just
missed by the huge red arrow. It's a large nuclear sub as you
can see. I really don't know why I write captions for these screens,
it's pretty obvious what we're dealing with here.

>> 6-INCH
SUBS
A bunch of mini-bosses to prepare you for the foot-long.

<< PRETTY SHIMMERY
What you can't see here is the way the moonlight shimmers twinklingly
over the dark water, a beautiful effect. Strangely empty this
shot I'm afraid. Too cold to come out and fight probably.
|
>> DEEP
RISING
I quite enjoyed that film actually. Ok, so some of the characters
were unlikeable sods, but "Evil Ed" livened it up a
bit. What's his real name anyway, you know, the moany one who
always gets hurt and nobody cares.

<< SPOIL THE FLOE
Incinerate the iceberg installations! Imagine building huts and
things on an iceberg. The Flying Pancake makes a return, looking
for all the world like a fat red Pikachu. I've no idea how this
thing stays in the air by the way.
|
>> HI
GRANTZ!
Easy peasy, I thought. I think this marks the spot where it gets
tricky. Many people will sail through the previous levels with
not much problem, but the Grantz has a pink underbelly...

|
<< SEE IF I CARE
These two continually pop up to annoy you, gloating over how they
downed your mothership again. Well, stuff em. I've blown up half
their army by now, and I'll be adding a big sub to that list shortly.
|
>> THE
ONE THAT GOT AWAY
Take too long and you'll fail the mission - as you'll only badly
damage it, leaving it otherwise intact. LEVEL

<< ...WHICH AIN'T SOFT.
Just as I thought it was safe to relax, the whole sub flips over
and reveals itself to be a boss of many talents. Protuberances
spout, and pink things fly. I'm a bit worried about the wellbeing
of the submariners, with their juice and dinner all over the place,
splattered on the ceiling. Smart innit? Hardly a chance to move
when its flinging rows of missiles from its secret compartments.
Sometimes I employ the close eyes and keep shooting method here,
which incidentally also the same was I drive on the motorway.
